  JOURNAL CLUB
Journal Club

A journal club is an invaluable educational tool in any ICU.

It helps keep senior members of the team (Consultants, Staff members) up to date and the discussion about the paper and trial design enables trainees to learn about these aspects.

Carefully selected papers usually faciltate discussion amongst all present that may lead to a change in practice based on the evidence. There are many different ways to organise a journal club. Some have it over lunch, others as part of formal teaching.

The ones we have in Cambridge are less formal and take place in the evenings. This makes it a bit of a social event as well, since they are usually accompanied by pizza and take place in my house in a 500-year-old dining room.
The summary on this webs site is written by the presenter with only minimal editing.

Because of this please read the paper and any other supporting references and make your own mind up before treating a patient. What we decided may not be applicable to your patients.
