It is with great sadness that the World Federation announces that Council Member Professor Jun Takezawa passed away in March 2008. Professor Takezawa had been ill for some time but the news of his passing came as a shock to the entire organisation.
Professor Takezawa was elected to the World Federation Council at the 8th World Congress in Sydney and on the news of his passing, Dr José Besso President of the World Federation issued the following statement:
"I have known Jun for many years through our work with the World Federation. We were both elected to serve on the Council at the same time at the 8th World Congress in Sydney in 2001. He was always an enthusiastic and committed contributor to our work and I had many opportunities to observe his great professional and personal qualities over the years. The critical care community in Japan, the Asia-Pacific Region and internationally has lost an important medical colleague and a true friend".
In November 2007, it was unanimously agreed that Professor Takezawa should receive the World Federation Distinguished Service Award. This is the highest accolade which the Council can bestow on a professional colleague. Professor Takezawa is survived by his wife and daughter and they will be presented with his award at the next available opportunity.
