Philip Lumb joined the WFSICCM Council in 1997 and served as Secretary-General until 2001 when he was elected President.
He is Professor of Anesthesiology and Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
Lumb divides his clinical time between cardiac anesthesia and critical care medicine and remains active in national and international critical care societies.
He is a past Chancellor of the American College of Critical Care Medicine and former Education Director of the Society of Critical Care Medicine.

His research interests include reperfusion injury, cardiopulmonary interactions and risk prevention in an anesthesia and critical care environments.
Dr Lumb completed his medical training in England and anesthesia and critical care in the United States. He is a native of London and resides in Los Angeles.
